Why weight in New Ash Green

News release issued on 31 August 2010

Residents living in New Ash Green have a unique opportunity to get into shape when a free, weight loss programme comes to the village.

Why Weight is a free weight loss programme and classes will run every Friday morning starting from 17 September from 9.30am to 11am for the next 12 weeks. The programme will be held at New Ash Green Sports Centre.

The course aims to encourage those people who have at least two stone to lose to take control of their lifestyle by balancing a healthy diet with regular exercise.

Each Why Weight session includes a 30 minute, motivational exercise class for all fitness levels, weekly weigh-ins and nutrition advice.

Throughout the programme, the Why Weight nutritionist will offer support and motivation to help participants to manage their weight effectively.

The successful Why Weight programme has been running in Sevenoaks District for over two years with groups held in Edenbridge, Sevenoaks, Swanley and Westerham. The programme has proven effective with over 100 residents attending and a total weight loss of over 81 stone.

Cllr Pat Bosley, Sevenoaks District Council's Cabinet member with responsibility for healthy living, says: "Why Weight has already been running successfully at various locations across the District, with many participants benefiting not only from weight loss, but also increased confidence, being fitter and feeling more positive."

Val Miller, Assistant Director of Public Health at NHS West Kent, adds: "Why Weight is an excellent opportunity for people who want to improve their health. A healthy lifestyle is so important to help reduce the risk of developing diseases like cancer, type 2 diabetes and heart disease."

Why Weight is organised by Sevenoaks District Council and funded by NHS West Kent as part of The Choosing Health Agenda, which aims to make healthier choices easier.

To find out more, or sign up to the programme, residents should speak with their GP, practice nurse or any health professional or contact Sevenoaks District Council on 01732 227000.
