Residents over 50 living in West Kingsdown can take part in a free computer course, being run by 10 and 11 year old school pupils, to help them understand how to use computers for personal use.
The Silver Surfers course is a direct response to a recent PACT (Partners and communities together) meeting in May, when residents asked for more activities involving older and younger people to help them better understand and learn from each other whilst overcoming their differences.
The Silver Surfer course is for residents over the age of 50 who have very little, or no experience of computers and will be learning from pupils who have a wide range of computer experience.
The course starts Friday 10 September, taking place at West Kingsdown School from 2pm to 3.30pm and runs for six weeks. It will aim to give participants a basic understanding of computers for personal use as well as teaching them how to use the internet safely, help them understand how to save, copy and backup files and also how to send and receive e-mails.
Places are limited for this free course and must be booked in advance.
Cllr Elaine Bracken, Sevenoaks District Council's Cabinet member with responsibility for equality, says: "Computers can seem a bit of a daunting prospect when you have little or no experience of using them, but that doesn't need to be the case. This free course gives beginners the opportunity to join up with others in the same position and learn the basics together at a pace which will suit everyone."
The initiative is being organised by Sevenoaks District Council in partnership with West Kingsdown Primary School.
