Seventy thousand pounds of playground improvements in Swanley have given local children access to an exciting play area which is set to be officially opened this month.
Cherry Avenue play area will be officially opened on Tuesday 31 August at 12noon by Cllr Avril Hunter, portfolio holder with responsibility for playgrounds.
Sevenoaks District Council's Youth Zone bus will be at the launch to supervise the event and children can enjoy a range of free activities including a children's entertainer, face painting, craft activities and fun and games.
Residents and children of Swanley had a big say in the design of the facility. They were asked in a survey what types of improvements they would like to be made and three designs were then displayed in Swanley library.
The public opted for their preferred choice which consisted of new climbing poles, a large swing and new earth mounds.
Cllr Avril Hunter, Sevenoaks District Council's Cabinet member with responsibility for playgrounds, says: "These new facilities will create a much more pleasant environment for the children of Swanley to play in, particularly as they have been involved in choosing them. It's exciting that young people have decided to make these improvements for themselves and the rest of their community."
The new facilities were funded by Sevenoaks District Council, West Kent Housing association and Swanley Town Council.
