Residents who want to shift some extra pounds can now do so when a popular, free weight loss course returns running in even more locations across the District.
Designed to empower, encourage and inform, 'Why Weight' is a 12 week course, aimed at those who feel they have two stone or more to lose.
It will help participants to take control of their health and jumpstart their weight loss by combining a healthy diet with exercise, motivation and lifestyle advice.
In the last year, 'Why Weight' helped 213 people lose a total of 671 pounds or 305 kilos, an average of nearly one-and-a-half kilos per person.
This successful course will re-launch this September in leisure and community centres across the District at the following locations and dates:
Classes run for 12 weeks, and the each week will include an hour long nutrition session, a 30 minute motivational exercise class, a weight and waist check, as well as expert advice from a health professional. After the programme has finished, participants will receive ongoing personal support to make sure they keep up the positive lifestyle change.
Cllr Pat Bosley, Sevenoaks District Council’s Cabinet member with responsibility for healthy living says: "This course is ideal for those looking to shed a few pounds around their waist line without having to spend a pound in their pocket. Throughout the 12 week course, a health expert will be on hand to offer practical advice on diet and exercise combined with motivational support to help participants lead a healthier lifestyle."
Val Miller, Public Health Specialist at NHS West Kent, adds: "Why Weight is an excellent opportunity for people who want to improve their health. Maintaining a healthy weight is so important to help reduce the risk of developing diseases like cancer, type 2 diabetes and heart disease."
