A new health walk is making its way to Lullingstone later this month which promises to be one of the most scenic and challenging in the District.
This latest health walk will start at 2pm on Monday 16 August running every Monday thereafter. It will begin and end at the Lullingstone Park Visitor Centre.
The Lullingstone health walk covers slopes and hills and will be more physically challenging than many other local health walks. However with its scenic route, which takes walkers through natural woodlands, it’s likely to be one of the most rewarding.
Some areas will be uneven with exposed tree roots so practical footwear is advised.
The walk will last up to an hour and everyone will be encouraged to walk at their own pace. There's no need to book, just turn up and get walking!
Walkers under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult aged over 18.
Regular walking has been shown to help improve fitness, relieve stress and improve mental wellbeing.
Cllr Pat Bosley, Sevenoaks District Council's Cabinet member with responsibility for healthy living, says: "This latest walk will be ideal for people who want to meet new friends and take part in regular exercise whilst enjoying some of the most impressive scenic views the District has to offer."
Val Miller, Public Health Specialist at NHS West Kent, adds: "Health walks are a good way for people to make the small steps that can make a big difference to their health and quality of life. Regular walking not only helps you maintain a healthy weight and reduce stress, but can also help people with diabetes, reduce the risk of dementia, breast and colon cancer and help in improving the immune system."
There are now seven health walks running in the District, which are organised by Sevenoaks District Council and funded by NHS West Kent to promote the Up and About part of Change4Life, which recommends being active for 30 minutes, five times a week.
