A new, free iphone application is making it even easier for those on the go to find out the hygiene scores of restaurants, takeaways and shops selling food.
Even better, for those who have the iphone 3GS and above, learning how many stars a food business has got is as easy as pointing their phone at the premises!
The Scores on the Doors website lists restaurants, takeaways and shops selling food that are inspected by Environmental Health throughout the Sevenoaks District.
Food premises are scored from zero to five stars with five being the top score demonstrating excellent standards of food hygiene.
To find out a score, people can log on to the website www.sevenoaks.gov.uk/scoresonthedoors. The new iphone application means that owners can simply point their iphone at a food business and it will tell them via a radar feature it's star rating.
During the first six months of 2010 over 12,770 requests for information were made on the website.
Cllr Elaine Bracken, the Council's Cabinet member with responsibility for food hygiene, says: "This is a great service that makes it even easier for people to find out how their favourite restaurant or food outlet has scored. More and more food premises are reaching three stars, or better, whilst the number of premises with no stars at all has dropped by 75% in the last year. This means that standards of hygiene are improving all the time."
