Sevenoaks District Council has written to 10,800 householders advising them that their refuse collection days will change from Monday 16 August 2010.
In the first major change to the Council's refuse rounds in more than 15 years, about 20% of the District's residents will have their black and clear sacks collected on a new day.
The Council is only writing to residents whose collection days will change.
Those residents who have not received a letter will continue with their normal collection day. However the time at which their sacks are collected may alter so residents are requested to put out their sacks by 7am. Collection of black and clear sacks will still remain weekly.
All the letters should be delivered by Thursday 5 August.
The Council's garden waste collection days will be unaffected, so residents who use the service should continue to put out their green bins or garden waste sacks on their usual day.
The changes, the major shake up since the mid 1990s, are being introduced to make the service more efficient and to even out the collection rounds, which have changed on an ad-hoc basis over the years to take account of new homes.
Cllr Avril Hunter, Sevenoaks District Council's Cabinet member with responsibility for the environment, says: "I would advise residents to look out for a letter from the Council, as it will include details of their new refuse collection day. I would stress however if you do not get a letter, your refuse collection day will remain the same although the time of collection may change."
