Older residents from the Edenbridge area who have recently had a fall, or who have problems maintaining their balance can benefit from a free, gentle, exercise class in the town.
The Falls Prevention class takes place at the Edenbridge Centre on Four Elms Road every Thursday from 12.30pm to 1.30pm, and is for anyone aged 60 or over who feel they would benefit from regular, gentle and progressive exercises.
This free class begins mainly in a chair and gradually progresses to standing activities. The aim is to improve balance, strength and stability.
There is no need to book, anyone can turn up and join in, and all abilities will be catered for and encouraged to work at their own pace.
Cllr Pat Bosley, Sevenoaks District Council Cabinet member with responsibility for healthy living, says: “Falls in older people often result in reduced mobility, fractures, loss of independence and isolation. These classes are a great way of improving your balance, and also of meeting other people.”
Free transport may be available for people living in, or close to, Edenbridge, who would like to attend the class, but who may have difficulty getting to the venue. For more information call the Council on 01732 227000.
This initiative is organised by Sevenoaks District Council in partnership with NHS West Kent and is funded by The Big Lottery Fund.
