"Go Wild" with a walk in Knole Park!

News release issued on 19 May 2009

Residents in the Sevenoaks area with an interest in local wildlife or a love of gardening can enjoy free guided walks in the picturesque surroundings of Knole Park in the coming weeks.

Sevenoaks District Council is offering two free natural history walks in Knole Park as part of its annual “Go Wild” project which aims to support local wildlife, improve access to the countryside and to promote sustainable gardening methods.

The first walk on, Wednesday 3 June, will look at some of the veteran trees in Knole Park and the second walk, on Wednesday 15 July, will look at the general natural history of Knole Park. Both walks will start at 2pm and will last approximately two hours.

Places are strictly limited, and anyone who would like to attend should call Simon Davies on 01732 227374 to book a place, or e-mail sus.dev@sevenoaks.gov.uk.

Walkers should wear appropriate footwear and outdoor clothing and be prepared for a little rain. Children under 16 years old must be accompanied by an adult. If the weather is hot walkers are advised to bring water, sun block and a hat.

Cllr Avril Hunter, Sevenoaks District Council member with responsibility for sustainable development, says: "Knole Park is one of the most historic areas in the District, and the perfect backdrop for what I am sure will be a fascinating and thoroughly entertaining walk. Don’t miss out, book your place now!"

These walks are part of a series of events which build on a programme of successful wildlife initiatives organised by Sevenoaks District Council during 2008.

Future events will include bat walks and a wildlife workshop with a badger watch in Horton Kirby.

This walk supports the Council’s aims to maintain and improve access to the countryside and to conserve the natural and built heritage by giving advice and information on supporting wildlife throughout the year.
