Help others at valuable workshop

News release issued on 11 May 2009

Voluntary and community groups in Sevenoaks District and Tunbridge Wells Borough can acquire the skills to help vulnerable people who are at risk of suicide, at a training course next week.

A free two-day Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) course is taking place in Edenbridge on Thursday 21 and Friday 22 May, and will run from 9am to 5pm each day. Lunch and refreshments will be provided.

The training course is for caregivers who want to feel more comfortable, confident and competent in helping to prevent the immediate risk of suicide.

A maximum of two places per organisation are available and delegates must be available to attend both days. It is with regret that a charge for the full price of the course (£300) will be made for non-attendance without prior cancellation.

Places are limited and must be booked in advance by Friday 15 May 2009. The course will run subject to all places being filled, and anyone turning up on the day will not be allowed to enter unless they have already pre-booked their place.

To book a place on the course please contact Pauline Todd at Sevenoaks District Council on 01732 227000 or e-mail healthyliving@sevenoaks.gov.uk.

The course is being held by Sevenoaks District Council in partnership with Tunbridge Wells Borough Council and funded by NHS West Kent as part of the Choosing Health Agenda 'Making Healthier Choices Easier'.
