Local residents can find out more about the exotic bird species that can be seen in Sevenoaks during the summer months when two special walks take place in the coming weeks.
Sevenoaks District Council is holding the two bird walks, on Wednesday 17 June at 10am and Wednesday 8 July at 6.30pm, at Sevenoaks Wildlife Reserve. Both walks will last around two hours.
No previous knowledge of birds is necessary as the walks will be led by experienced walk leaders who will provide information and advice on the many rare and exotic bird species at the Reserve.
Places are strictly limited, and anyone who would like to attend should call Simon Davies on 01732 227374 to book a place, or e-mail sus.dev@sevenoaks.gov.uk
Walkers are advised to wear appropriate footwear and outdoor clothing and be prepared for a little rain. If the weather is hot, walkers should bring water, sun-block and a hat. Children under 16 years old must be accompanied by an adult.
Cllr Avril Hunter, Sevenoaks District Council Cabinet member with responsibility for sustainable development, says: "We held the first bird walk of the year in April, and it proved so successful that we’ve had to organise two more! There promises to be even more to see at the Wildlife Reserve now we are in summer, so book your place now!"
The bird walks are part of a series of wildlife events which build on a programme of successful wildlife events organised by Sevenoaks District Council during 2008.
Residents are reminded that a few spaces are also available on the Natural History Walk in Knole Park on Wednesday 15 July at 2pm, on a first come, first served basis.
These walks support the Council’s aims to maintain and improve access to the countryside and conserve the natural and built heritage by giving advice and information on supporting wildlife throughout the year.
For further information and to book onto either Bird Walk, please telephone Simon Davies at Sevenoaks District Council on 01732 227374 or e-mail sus.dev@sevenoaks.gov.uk.
