Get in shape for the New Year

News release issued on 23 December 2009

A popular weight management programme is being introduced to Swanley and New Ash Green from January to help residents achieve their New Year’s resolutions.

The Why Weight Plan, which is available to Sevenoaks District residents, is a free 12 week programme that encourages people to make healthier choices and exercise regularly. It’s open to people aged 18 and over who have at least two stone to lose and is run by qualified professionals.

A qualified nutritionist will provide practical solutions to leading a healthier lifestyle including meal portion sizes, understanding food labels, eating out and managing those triggers that can lead to eating, such as stress and boredom. The exercise class will provide a great introduction to becoming more active and an exercise specialist will be on hand to provide help and advice on the most effective way to managing weight.

The Why Weight Plan will start in New Ash Green on Wednesday 13 January at 10am and in Swanley on Thursday 14 January at 1pm. Places are limited and must be booked in advance.

Cllr Pat Bosley Sevenoaks District Council Cabinet member with responsibility for healthy living, says: "This free programme has been very successful in other areas of Sevenoaks District and I'm sure residents in New Ash Green and Swanley will take full advantage of what this programme has to offer."

For more information, or to sign up to the programme, residents should either speak with their GP, practice nurse or contact Pauline Todd at Sevenoaks District Council on 01732 227000 or e-mail at healthyliving@sevenoaks.gov.uk

Why Weight is organised by Sevenoaks District Council and funded by NHS West Kent as part of the Choosing Health Agenda, which aims to make healthier choices easier.
