Your District, your Community Plan
News release issued on 21 December 2009
Over the next five weeks, local residents will be asked for their views on an important plan that sets out the priorities for local services in the coming years.
Between now and 29 January, Sevenoaks District Local Strategic Partnership will be asking local residents to say what they think of the draft Sustainable Community Action Plan, which will run for three years from April 2010.
The Sevenoaks District Community Plan is created through talking to people from across the community who were asked what is needed to make the District a good place to live. The Community Plan therefore represents the community’s priorities for action.
The Community Plan affects how all the services in the District are delivered, not just those provided by the District Council. They relate to all aspects of community life and the services that all residents receive.
The Sevenoaks District Local Strategic Partnership urges everyone who lives or works in the District to have their say on whether the actions in this plan will deliver the kind of Sevenoaks District we all want to be part of.
Priorities identified in the plan are:
- Help Communities to feel safe and be safe. Residents have asked the Partnership to reduce anti-social behaviour and crime.
- Meeting the needs of an ageing population. Residents have asked the Partnership to have access to the right services and support.
- Support vulnerable people. Residents have asked the Partnership to provide better information about services and provide debt management and advice.
- A better start for our children. Residents have asked the Partnership to increase affordable out of school provision and activities for children.
- Improve the lives of young people in the District. Residents have asked the Partnership to increase young people’s participation in activities.
- A clean and healthy environment. Residents have asked the Partnership to reduce litter and tackle graffiti and fly tipping.
- Energy, resources and climate change. Residents have asked the Partnership to reduce fuel poverty and prepare for climate change.
- Improve health and well-being. Residents have asked the Partnership to provide healthy lifestyles advice and low cost activities.
- Use of land and District character. Residents have asked the Partnership to protect the distinctive physical character of the District and encourage safe and vibrant town and village centres.
- Strong, active and involved communities. Residents have asked the Partnership to ensure you have a greater say in influencing the future shape of your areas and in planning future services.
- Keep Sevenoaks District moving. Residents have asked the Partnership to improve accessibility to main towns and services.
- Housing to meet residents needs. Residents have asked the Partnership to provide a range of tenure and size of homes and provide affordable housing for local people.
- A thriving economy. Residents have asked the Partnership to support businesses and attract new investment in the District and reduce the number of young people not in education, training or employment
Cllr Peter Fleming, the Leader of the Council, says: "The Sustainable Community Plan will affect people of all ages, and from all areas of the District, and by working together and listening to our residents, we can ensure the District remains the type of place we all want to see. So I would urge local people to take a look at the draft plan and let us have their views to ensure its priorities are the same as those of our residents."
