Kemsing residents who are not used to physical activity, or who want to walk and talk can benefit from a new free health walk starting in the town next month.
The Kemsing Health Walk will take place every Tuesday from 17 June, at 10.30pm, starting and finishing at the free car park on the High Street next door to the Wheatsheaf pub.
All ages and abilities are welcome to attend the free walk, but it is aimed specifically at those who are not used to walking or who are recovering from injury and want to get back into physical activity.
The walks will be led by trained walk leaders and will be around two miles long, lasting between 45 minutes and an hour depending on your pace. New walkers are requested to arrive a few minutes early to fill out a short health questionnaire
Buggies and wheelchairs are welcome at the walk, and it is suggested people dress appropriately according to the weather, and sensible comfortable footwear is a must.
Cllr Elaine Bracken, Sevenoaks District Council Cabinet Member with responsibility for healthy living, says: “This walk promises to be a great way to ease yourself gently back into physical activity, and I am sure it will be a very sociable event too. Just 45 minutes of walking is enough to take around 3,700 steps and burn off 160 to 200 calories, so if you want to get yourself fitter come along!”
The free health walk has been organised by Sevenoaks District Council in partnership with Sencio Community Leisure and is funded by West Kent Primary Care Trust as part of the national ‘Choosing Health’ agenda which aims to make healthy choices easier.
