Help Sevenoaks make the transition!

News release issued on 11 March 2008

Sevenoaks residents who want to help create a positive environmentally friendly style of living to help combat climate change can find out more about an innovative community run initiative later this month.

A meeting is being held, by and for the local community, at 7.30pm on Tuesday 25 March at Sevenoaks Community Centre to consider whether Sevenoaks could become a ‘Transition Town’ - a community run initiative which looks at the current and future effects of climate change and how Sevenoaks can adapt and thrive by involving as many different community groups as possible.

Arctic explorer Glenn Morris will be one of four speakers attending, talking about his experiences in one of the coldest parts of the world. There will also be talks on sea level rise in Kent, sustainability and transition towns.

Cllr Carol Clark, Sevenoaks District Council Cabinet member with responsibility for energy efficiency, says: “As a Council we are committed to tackling climate change, as we demonstrated with the signing of the Nottingham Declaration last October. This is an excellent opportunity for the whole community, young and old, to get involved and to find out more about climate change and what we can all do to combat it.”

The Sevenoaks District Council website also contains plenty of energy saving advice, accessible by going to the energy saving section of the Council website
