Time is running out to nominate your Young Volunteer of the Year

News release issued on 10 March 2008

Time is running out for anyone in the District to put forward young people who they feel have made a difference in their community through their voluntary work.

There are three weeks until the deadline date of 31 March for nominations for the Sevenoaks District Young Volunteer of the Year, a scheme which aims to recognise young people aged 14 to 18 whose voluntary work has shown:

Anyone can get involved, from teachers to neighbours, from community workers to residents - you don’t have to be part of a youth group to nominate someone.

Nomination forms are available at Sevenoaks District Council, town and parish councils, libraries and community and voluntary youth groups. Nominations can also be made online by going to the young people's pages of the Council website

All selected nominees will be invited to an Award Ceremony at the Sevenoaks District Council Offices and will receive a certificate.

Prizes for the Volunteer of the Year and runners up will be presented at the Award Ceremony, to be held on Thursday 15 May.

Cllr Felicity Broomby, Sevenoaks District Council Cabinet member with responsibility for young people’s issues, says: "The Young Volunteer of the Year scheme is all about raising the profile of young people’s achievements in the District. So many young people give up their own spare time to help others and it is something that is not always recognised, so if you know someone who you feel is worthy of this award make sure you get your nomination in before the end of the month.”

The closing date for nominations is Monday 31 March.
