Residents can take a walk on the wild side!

News release issued on 11 June 2008

Residents of Sevenoaks District are being reminded that they have the chance to enjoy a wildlife treat next week.

Sevenoaks District Council’s first free wildlife walk will take place next Wednesday (18 June), starting from Lullingstone Park Visitors’ Centre at 2.30pm.

The walk will be lead by a wildlife expert, and will look at wildflowers, orchids, and associated wildlife.

Another free walk will take place on Wednesday 16 July, and will look at woodlands and veteran trees.

Both routes will be approximately two miles in length and there will be several stops at key locations to discuss the flora and fauna seen at these locations.

Residents do not have to book in advance and can just turn up on the day. Walkers should wear appropriate footwear and outdoor clothing and should bring water, sunscreen and a hat if the weather is very hot. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Cllr Avril Hunter, Sevenoaks District Council Cabinet Member with responsibility for the environment, says: "This walk is the perfect opportunity to enjoy some of the beautiful scenery and wildlife that is prevalent in this District. It is free, and if the weather stays fine it should be a wonderful way to spend an afternoon.”

For further information on the wildlife walks please call Sevenoaks District Council on 01732 227000 or e-mail sus.dev@sevenoaks.gov.uk.
