Week of events marks launch of new safety strategy

To celebrate the launch of the new Sevenoaks District Community Safety Strategy, a week of events primarily intended for the local media has been lined up beginning next Monday (9 June).
The Strategy set out plans to tackle crime and the fear of crime over the coming three years.
The week will demonstrate the diverse work of the Community Safety Partnership and events have been organised by partners including Sevenoaks District Council, Kent Police, Kent County Council, the Kenward Trust, Kent Fire & Rescue Service and West Kent Housing Association.
In all 14 events will be taking place. They are:
- A trip out with the Clean Kent Enforcement Team as they remove fly tipping, graffiti and rubbish across the District
- A chance to meet and walk with a Police Community Support Officer in Edenbridge and Swanley and a KCC warden in Crockenhill and Otford
- Interviews with key representatives of the Community Safety Partnership
- A chance to see in action the Council’s CCTV nerve centre
- A community clean up in Swanley
- An opportunity to see Charlton Athletic carrying out detached youth work at Greatness in Sevenoaks
- A visit to an alcohol clinic in Otford which provides advice and support for those wishing to have help with alcohol problems
- A chance to see the Probation Service clearing up graffiti using the Grimebuster in New Ash Green and Hartley
- The chance to interview the project manager and participants of the community domestic abuse programme
- An opportunity to talk to a participant on the 12 week Freedom programme, designed to help women who have suffered or are suffering from Domestic Abuse
- Kent Fire and Rescue Services, West Kent Police and the North Kent Crime Prevention Panel will join forces for a community safety day involving crime reduction gadgets and advice on vehicle crime and anti-social behaviour.
- A Cold Calling Control Zone event in Brasted aimed at stopping unwanted doorstep callers
- A visit to the Power Project, which works with young people who have been identified as being at risk of committing criminal offences, and an opportunity to speak to them
- A chance to observe Kent Police as they visit licensed premises as part of a drugs operation in Sevenoaks
The Community Safety Partnership is officially launching its new three year strategy this week with a series of opportunities for the media to find out more about the work taking place in the District to reduce crime and the fear of crime and strengthen communities. The Partnership brings together all of the agencies in the District who can have an effect on crime and includes West Kent Police, Sevenoaks District Council, Kent County Council, Kent Fire & Rescue Service, West Kent Primary Care Trust, the voluntary sector, Kent Drug & Alcohol Action Team, West Kent Housing Association, Moat Housing Association, Kent Youth Offending Team and the Probation Service Team, West Kent Extra and the Kenward Trust.
