Sevenoaks District residents have the chance to find out how they can attract and protect local wildlife and encourage biodiversity at a workshop later this month.
Places are still available on a first come, first served basis for the Summer Wildlife Workshop on Wednesday 24 July at Sevenoaks Community Centre which starts at 7pm.
At the workshop, guest speakers will be giving presentations on the subjects of butterflies and garden ponds, as well as answering any questions people have regarding local flora and fauna, and advising on how they can ensure their gardens are attractive to local wildlife.
This workshop supports Sevenoaks District Council’s Sustainable Community Action Plan aim to conserve the natural and built heritage, through safeguarding the District’s biodiversity.
Cllr Avril Hunter, Sevenoaks District Council cabinet member with responsibility for sustainable development, says: “Many people across the District take a really active interest in their local wildlife, and are always looking to find out more about how they can protect and enhance the natural environment. This workshop, along with other events organised for later this year will be the perfect opportunity to do just that.”
Further wildlife events are planned for later this year. A Bat Walk will be held on Wednesday 27 August at 7pm at Sevenoaks Wildlife Reserve, and a Wildlife Walk, looking at birds, will also be held at the Wildlife Reserve on Friday 19 September at 2.30pm.
Both these walks will need to be booked in advance, as places are strictly limited.
At the workshop residents will also be able to find out about activities planned for the Kent Wildlife Trust’s 50th anniversary this summer and enjoy the usual range of stands from local environmental and wildlife organisations.
