Sevenoaks District residents are reminded that they have another chance to explore the wildlife in the district later this month with another countryside treat.
The latest “Go Wild” wildlife walk will take place on Wednesday 16 July starting from Lullingstone Park Visitors Centre at 2.30pm.
The first of these fun and free Wildlife Walks took place on Wednesday 18 June, looking at wildflowers, orchids and associated wildlife and was thoroughly enjoyed by over 40 residents.
The July walk will look at woodlands and veteran trees and will be approximately two miles in length, with several stops at key locations to discuss the flora and fauna seen at these locations. It also gives residents a chance to look at some of the beautiful scenery that the district has to offer.
Residents do not have to book in advance and can just turn up on the day. Walkers should wear appropriate footwear and outdoor clothing and should bring water, sunscreen and a hat if the weather is very hot. Children under 16 years old must be accompanied by an adult.
Cllr Avril Hunter, Sevenoaks District Council cabinet member with responsibility for the environment says “The walk is a wonderful opportunity for residents to appreciate the enormous variety of wildlife that exists right on their doorstep. The walk offers many ideal routes for residents to explore, with paths going through woodland and meadows, and gives residents the opportunity to learn about the wildlife around them. Let's just hope the weather holds out! If it does, it promises to be a fun and adventurous afternoon.”
Further events are planned for later this year. A Bat Walk will be held at Sevenoaks Wildlife reserve on Wednesday 27 August at 7pm. There is also the opportunity of a Wildlife Walk, which will concentrate on birds, on Friday 19 September at 2.30pm, also at the Sevenoaks Wildlife reserve.
Both these walks will need to be booked in advance, as places are strictly limited.
