Get funky!

News release issued on 29 January 2008

Dance lovers are in for treat when a popular new dance class is launched in Swanley next month.

The Strictly Dance Funk class, which is already running successfully in Edenbridge, comes to White Oak Leisure in Swanley from next Wednesday (6 February).

Local residents will be able to enjoy a variety of dance styles, including jazz, salsa, pop and Latin American for just £2 with the new weekly class which runs from 10.30am to 11.30am every Wednesday. There is also a free crèche available and new dance routines are learnt each week, so people can join at any time.

Cllr Felicity Broomby, Sevenoaks District Council's Cabinet member with responsibility for healthy living, says: "The Strictly Dance Funk class has been a real hit in Edenbridge with its wide variety of dance styles and friendly atmosphere, so it is fantastic that Swanley residents now have an opportunity to enjoy it too! Plus the free creche means parents who otherwise would not be able to attend, can come along and join in knowing their children are being looked after nearby."

Strictly Dance Funk is a healthy lifestyle initiative co-ordinated by Sevenoaks District Council in partnership with Sencio Community Leisure and funded by West Kent Primary Care Trust as part of the Choosing Health agenda which aims to make healthy choices easier.

The class is run by a professional dance teacher from Pure Dance, and everyone is made to feel very welcome. There is no need to book your place on the class, however crèche places are limited and can be booked in advance by calling 01322 662188.

For more information on the class please contact Layla Powell, Choosing Health Co-ordinator by calling 01732 227121 or by e-mailing healthyliving@sevenoaks.gov.uk
