News release issued on 26 February 2008

Local residents are being reminded they have less than a fortnight to make their views known on crime and the fear of crime in the District.

The Sevenoaks District Community Safety Partnership is currently consulting on its draft Strategy and Action Plan for 2008 to 2011, with residents having until Thursday 6 March to comment on the document.

The draft plan, which is based on consultation with local people, statistical crime data and data from partner agencies, contains over 50 actions designed to reduce crime and the fear of crime, including projects to reduce burglary, vehicle crime, anti-social behaviour and domestic abuse.

The Community Safety Partnership is keen to receive comments on the Action Plan from as many people as possible, including residents, town and parish councils, young people, local businesses and voluntary organisations.

The document can be viewed on the community safety pages of the Council website and comments can be made online.

Alternatively, copies of the consultation document are available by calling Sevenoaks District Council on 01732 227000 and requesting a Community Safety Consultation Pack.

Cllr Keith Loney, Sevenoaks District Council Cabinet Member with responsibility for community safety, says: “Despite living in the safest area in Kent, which is one of the safest counties in the country, we are always striving to do more to reduce crime and the fear of crime in the District. With the help of local people we can do this, so I would urge people to give us their views before 6 March.”

The Sevenoaks District Community Safety Partnership brings together all of the agencies who can have an effect on reducing crime and the fear of crime. It includes representatives from Kent Police, Sevenoaks District Council, Kent County Council, the Probation Service, Youth Offending Service, Local Health Providers, Housing Associations, the Voluntary Sector and Kent Fire & Rescue Service.
