Put on your dancing shoes in Swanley!

News release issued on 15 February 2008

There is a chance for Swanley residents to enjoy another afternoon of music, dancing and socialising when the next popular tea dance waltzes into the town next month.

The event is being held on Thursday 27 March at White Oak Leisure Centre from 12noon to 2pm. Tickets cost £4 per person, which includes sandwiches and tea and coffee, and are available now from the Leisure Centre.

The tea dances were introduced in Swanley last year and have proved very successful, with all participants saying they would like to attend them on a regular basis.

Cllr Felicity Broomby, Sevenoaks District Council's Cabinet Member with responsibility for community development, says: "These tea dances have been tremendously well received across the District, they offer real benefits to your health, and are fantastic social events as well. The tickets always sell very quickly though so I'd tell people anyone interested to get their advanced ticket as soon as they can, and prepare to relieve some classic music of the past at the tea dance!"

The tea dances are organised by Sevenoaks District Council in partnership with Sencio Community Leisure and funded by West Kent Primary Care Trust. This initiative is part of the 'Sevenoaks District Healthy Lifestyles Project' and the national 'Choosing Health' Agenda to make healthier choices easier.

The dances aim to get more people involved in community events to reduce isolation as well as providing a fun way for people to get fitter and active in their local community.
