People with disabilities and older people will soon be able to benefit from a new online guide to local venues providing information about their accessibility for a range of impairments and conditions.
The guide will go live on Friday 28 September and will be available via Sevenoaks District Council's website, www.sevenoaks.gov.uk/access. It was developed by DisabledGo, a National Accessibility Project, following consultation with representatives of disabled groups and residents.
The online guide includes around 1,000 venues, all of which have been visited and assessed by fully trained DisabledGo researchers.
Venues include hotels, bars, pubs, restaurants, tourist attractions, leisure and entertainment facilities, train stations, local libraries and council offices. The guide empowers residents to judge the disabled access to venues for themselves.
Cllr Keith Loney, the Council's Cabinet member with responsibility for Safe and Caring Communities, says: "We are committed to promoting inclusive and accessible environments for all our residents. The introduction of this guide will help give people who live in, work in or visit the District the freedom to enjoy everything it has to offer".
DisabledGo for Sevenoaks District will be unveiled at White Oak Indoor Bowls Centre, Hilda May Avenue, Swanley from 12noon to 1.45pm on Friday 28 September 2007.
Representatives from local disabled groups will be present together with Sevenoaks District Council leader Cllr Peter Fleming and Gregory Burke of DisabledGo.
