The first ever winner of an exciting new award scheme in the District is set to be announced next month.
Sevenoaks District Council's inaugural Young Volunteer of the Year award ceremony will be held at the Council Offices on Tuesday 5 June.
On the evening, which will run from 5.30pm to 7pm, the award winner and two runners up who have made a difference in their local community through their volunteering efforts will be revealed by the Chairman of Sevenoaks District Council, Cllr James Gaywood.
Nominees for the award come from towns and villages across the District including Sevenoaks, Swanley, Edenbridge, New Ash Green, Seal and Knockholt.
The Sevenoaks District Young Volunteer of the Year scheme aims to recognise young people aged 14 to 18 whose voluntary work has shown:
Residents of the District were invited to nominate young people for the award throughout February and March using nomination forms available from Sevenoaks District Council, town and parish councils, libraries, community and voluntary youth groups and schools.
Cllr Felicity Broomby, Sevenoaks District Council Cabinet member with responsibility for young people's issues, says: "It is vitally important that the work of our young volunteers in the District, who give up their own time to help others, is recognized and rewarded accordingly and this is exactly what this scheme does. I would like to extend my thanks to all those who nominated people for this award, and of course the young volunteers themselves for the selfless work they do. I can certainly say it was extremely difficult to select the winner and two runners up due to the very high standard of all the nominees."
