03 September 2010Catering businesses have an opportunity to ensure they are on the right tracks to comply with new food safety regulations at a free seminar that takes place next month.
The ‘Safer Food, Better Business’ seminar, being run by Sevenoaks District Council, is being held on Thursday 5 July at the Brands Hatch Thistle Hotel from 1.30pm to 5pm.
The seminar aims to explain changes in EU food safety regulations that came into effect last year and what caterers and food retailers are required to do ensure they comply with them.
All businesses who attend the seminar will receive a ‘Safer Food, Better Business’ pack, a jargon free food safety management system offering simple, practical guidance for small catering and retail businesses. Delegates will be taught how to use this pack to ensure compliance with the new regulations and good practice in general.
The seminar will be followed up with free one-to-one coaching visits to the businesses to help them implement any necessary changes.
Cllr Keith Loney, the Council’s Cabinet member with responsibility for environmental health, says: "These new hygiene laws affect all food businesses in the District, and this seminar is a great opportunity to have a simple and concise explanation of the new regulations and how they can be met with the aid of the ‘Safer Food, Better Business’ pack. However I know that places are limited, so I would advise any business that is interested in coming to get in touch with us to book their place immediately."
Sevenoaks District Council has already run three free food safety seminars since November 2006. A final seminar will be held on Wednesday 7 November, and there will be a special course for food retailers in early 2008.
