Swanley residents invited to shape the future of the town centre next month

News release issued on 20 June 2007

Swanley residents who want to have their say on possible improvements to the town centre are being encouraged to take part in an innovative consultation exercise that is taking place next month.

Sevenoaks District Council is holding two ‘Planning for Real’ events in July. On Tuesday 3 July at Swanley Library, from 6pm to 8pm, and on Thursday 5 July, from 2pm to 8pm, at the Clock Tower Pavilion, Swanley Town Council Offices.

Local people will be invited to view a model of the town centre which will be on display, and give their opinions on what they see as important features, services and facilities, any problem areas, what they would like to keep or change, and highlight any needs or opportunities that they feel the town may have.

Once this has been carried out the responses will be analysed and written up into a report which will help inform future work on the potential re-development of the town centre.

Cllr Carol Clark, Sevenoaks District Council Cabinet member with responsibility for Balanced Communities, says: “This type of consultation is something we have used before, and it has always proved popular as it is highly visible and easy to take part in. If anyone wants to have their say on the potential redevelopment of the town centre I would urge them not to miss this opportunity and to come along to one of these two dates.”

The events are open to all residents, local organisations and those with an interest in the future of the town. Any resident or organisation unable to attend either of the events can e-mail swanley.centre@sevenoaks.gov.uk with their comments. All comments must be received by 6 July 2007.

Everyone who attends either of the consultation exercises will also be entered into a free prize draw to win £100 worth of shopping vouchers.

Swanley residents previously took part in a 'Planning for Real' consultation in 2001 when they were asked their views on a range of community projects in the town.
