Review begins into local polling districts and stations

News release issued on 28 August 2007

Sevenoaks District Council is asking local people for their views on the location and accessibility of local polling areas and polling stations.

The Sevenoaks District is divided into small areas, known as polling districts, for voting purposes. Each polling district has one or more designated polling stations where electors can cast their votes in person. The aim is to provide polling stations that are easily accessible to all electors, including those who are disabled.

Polling stations are used for Parliamentary, county, district, town and parish and European elections as well as any referendums that are called.

The District Council would also welcome any person or body with expertise in access for those with any type of disability to make their views comments known. Persons or bodies making representations should give alternative places that may be used as polling stations.

For more information either e-mail elreg@sevenoaks.gov.uk or write to:

The deadline for comments is Friday, 12 October 2007.

The Council will investigate the representations and report to Members of the District Council. The Council will publish its findings and invite further comments from interested persons or bodies.
