Young People's Action Plan 2006

The Young People's Action Plan sets out what we are going to do for children and young people living in the Sevenoaks District.

The Plan is a Partnership document and cannot be delivered without the valuable input of our Partners in the voluntary and statutory sectors and there are lots of different organisations signed up to help us.

Local young people will be involved throughout the Plan but specifically in the 6 monthly monitoring and evaluation of the actions.

In order to find out what was important to local young people, almost 9000 questionnaires were sent out to schools and youth groups and we had 2158 completed questionnaires returned. That's 14% of the young people living in the Sevenoaks District and a really extensive consultation.

We also talked to groups of young people in focus groups around the District to get even more information resulting in over 2200 children and young people being involved. The actions in the Plan aim to respond to the answers given by the children and young people and also fit in with national and local plans set out by the Government and organisations like Kent County Council and also plans developed by other teams within Sevenoaks District Council.

We think that young people should be involved in the Plan and with Council services as a whole and have adopted the Hear by Right Shared Values to help the Council to provide a better platform for engaging with young people. We will be progressing these standards as the Plan develops and involving young people in service planning, delivery, monitoring and evaluation.

More information about the results of the consultation and to find out how the Plan fits into local and national policy can be found by downloading the first part of the Action Plan, called What it's all about... ( PDF 2231K file details).

The second part of the Action Plan is called What we are going to do... ( PDF 2967K file details). It sets out the actions for 2006-7 and lists who will help us to deliver them and will also tell you how these actions will be monitored. This part of the Plan will be looked at each year to make sure the Plan stays up to date.

The Plan is split into three sections

Join the Project Team!

The Young People's Action Plan - What we are going to do… was written using information and ideas from over 2200 young people in the Sevenoaks District and we want as many young people as possible to continue to be involved and make your voices heard loud and clear!

The Project Team will be involved in monitoring the plan by visiting projects and talking directly to the people providing services for local children and young people. They will also be selecting projects to check they are offering a good quality service and running activities that local children and young people want.

If you would like to come to find out more about the Team and meet other people interested in getting involved, please email youthmail@sevenoaks.gov.uk or call 01732 227492.

Alternatively, For more info - send a text starting with the word 'Team' then your name to 07799 732 732 and someone will get back to you.

If you would like to join the Team, you need to be aged 12 or over and live in the Sevenoaks District. You must also be willing to give a few hours to the project for training and visits to clubs, projects and services. The team have created their own page on the Council's website and fedback to Sevenoaks District Councillors what they think of activities for young people.
