8 to 12s project

Sevenoaks District 8-12s Project provides weekly activities for children aged 8 to 12.

Initially funded by SRB and the Kent Children's Fund to work in Swanley, and led by this council, the 8-12s project was so successful that the project has now expanded to also work in Sevenoaks, New Ash Green, and West Kingsdown.

West Kent Extra now lead the project in partnership with Sevenoaks District Council, Kent County Council and Town and Parish Councils. Follow this link to find out more about the project on the West Kent Extra website.

An 8-12s Project evaluation was completed in April 2010, which showed that the project is performing well against the five Every Child Matters outcomes. View a copy of the 2010 8-12s evaluation ( PDF File 2798KB file details).

The 8-12s Project works with children referred by local schools, family support centres, parents and social services. It aims to support children and provide access to low cost, exciting and challenging activities which are creative, skilful, educational and fun. The regular youth clubs and activities are structured, with sports and games and arts and crafts each week during term time. There are also special workshops, trips and activities planned with many ideas coming from the club members themselves.

Special visits and outings throughout the year include trips to the theatre, 10 pin bowling, rock climbing, sports centres, museums and other attractions.

All club members agree to abide by the project's Charter of Rights ( PDF 279K file details), which was written by the children themselves and encourages good behaviour and respect between children, volunteers and staff.
