8 to 12s project

The Swanley 8 to 12s Project provides weekly activities for children in Swanley aged 8 to 12.

Initially funded by SRB and the Kent Children's Fund, the project has been managed by Sevenoaks District Council for the past three years.

From April 2005, West Kent Extra led the project in partnership with Sevenoaks District Council, the Kent Children's Fund, Swanley Town Council and Sencio Community Leisure.

As part of a three year funding agreement with Kent Children's Fund, a mid term evaluation was completed in October 2006.

The Evaluation ( PDF 9015K file details) showed that the project is performing well against the five Every Child Matters outcomes.

What's On
The project runs a Friday Club every week at the Swanley Youth and Community Centre where activities include team games and sports, arts and crafts, board games, quiz nights, dance and drama.

On Mondays during term time, the project provides half price swimming sessions at White Oak Leisure Centre.

An arts club takes place on Wednesdays where children have the chance to develop new skills including model making, painting tiles, jewellery making and other arts and crafts.

Special activities and outings are organised throughout the year including trips to the theatre, 10 pin bowling, museums and other attractions.

All children attending the project agree to abide by the project's Charter of Rights ( PDF 279K file details), which was written by the children themselves and encourages good behaviour and respect between children, volunteers and staff.
