Update on the future of the STAG

Kino returned the keys to the theatre and cinema complex to the District Council on Tuesday 8 July 2008 following the conclusion of the Sevenoaks Summer Festival.

Early consideration of the situation began with a report to the Council’s Public Cabinet meeting on Thursday 10 July 2008.  At this meeting the Council considered options available to it.

At the Cabinet meeting, Cllr. Mrs Bracken, the Portfolio Holder for Community Wellbeing, referred to the details in the report and said that problems with the STAG theatre and cinema had happened very rapidly.  She urged Cabinet to consider adopting the option in the report whereby options for re-opening the STAG as an arts complex would be investigated.

Members of Cabinet and other Members of the Council spoke in support of Cllr. Mrs Bracken’s proposal and drew attention to the urgency of the matter.

At the meeting, it was resolved that Sevenoaks District Council Officers continue, as a matter of urgency, to investigate options with providers including Kent County Council (KCC) for re-opening the STAG, to provide theatre, cinema and youth outreach programmes.

Details of the Council's Cabinet reports are available on the Council's Minutes Information System (CMIS).  This includes the Kino Holdings Ltd - Update Report from the Cabinet meeting on 10 July 2008.
