The Sevenoaks Historical Society focuses specifically upon local history. It holds monthly meetings with a speaker, apart from the months of July August and September.

A number of tours take place each year, to such locations as Roman Palaces and First World War battlefields.

The Sevenoaks Historical Society is associated with The Sevenoaks Society.

Sevenoaks District in music, film and literature
Sevenoaks has been the setting, or inspiration, for a number of literary and musical works.

In early 1967, the Beatles came to Knole Park in Sevenoaks to film the video for Strawberry Fields Forever. During the brief visit, John Lennon found a Victorian circus advertisement in a local antique shop. The wording on the ad inspired him to compose Being for the Benefit of Mr Kite!, which can be found on their best-selling album, Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. (Information supplied by Revolution in the Head by Ian McDonald, published by Pimlico, 1998).
Virginia Woolf wrote the biographical Orlando, about Vita Sackville-West and Knole House.

The science fiction writer, HG Wells lived in Eardley Road in the centre of Sevenoaks.
