Best Councils to work for award

The Times Best Councils to work for logoSevenoaks District Council has been named in the top five best councils to work for in the country and the best in the South-East according to the Sunday Times.

At an awards ceremony held in London during September 2007, the Council also picked up one of five special awards on offer and was shortlisted for another.

Nearly 300 staff at the Council received questionnaires from the Sunday Times containing 70 questions on issues such as leadership (the heads and senior managers of the Council), managers (management on a day-to-day basis), personal growth opportunities, wellbeing, team colleagues and pay and benefits.

Of around 100 councils that entered the competition Sevenoaks District Council came fifth and was praised for its high staff morale, comprehensive training programme, internal communications and leadership.

Five special awards were also presented to councils demonstrating high levels of engagement in various categories. Sevenoaks District Council picked up the award for being the best council in the country for the environment and local community.

In particular it was commended for its efforts to reduce waste and protect the environment, free play and activities provided for children and young people during the summer months and assisting the most vulnerable members of the community with free crime reduction and security gadgets.

The Council was also one of three nominated for the ‘Best Leader’ special award for the chief executive whose workforce feels is the most inspirational.
