Work experience placements with the Council

Sevenoaks District Council provides work experience opportunities in a wide range of work areas for students in Year 10 or above, or others who live, work or study in Sevenoaks District.

Work experience is an opportunity for people to spend a period of time carrying out tasks or duties similar to regular employees but it is unpaid and with the emphasis on learning.

It can help students gain many skills that cannot be taught in school or college and will make them more aware of their capabilities. It gives them the opportunity to see the connection between the subjects they study and the world of work. Work experience also offers students the chance to understand the importance of key skills in the workplace.

Work experience helps the Council by:

Improving the quality of young people entering the labour market
Attracting school leavers to fill the Council's vacancies
Enhancing its profile in the community
Developing the management skills of its employees involved in work experience

Work experience will:

Enhance students’ general education
Widen practical understanding of the world of work
Help develop self-confidence
Improve interpersonal skills
Help relate learning to employment
Help students make more informed career choices
Give students an understanding of the qualities and qualifications needed for work
Give students evidence to include in their National Record of Achievement
