In Autumn 2008 Sevenoaks District Council, in partnership with the Housing Options Team at West Kent Housing Association, will introduce the Kent Homechoice Choice Based Lettings scheme.
Choice Based Lettings is a new, interactive way of allocating housing association and registered social landlord properties, giving applicants more choice about where they live and helps them to understand more clearly their likelihood of being rehoused.
It is a Government requirement for all councils to have a Choice Based Lettings scheme. Please note that there is no council housing in Sevenoaks District as the Council transferred its entire housing stock to West Kent Housing Association in 1989.
From the Autumn, all applicants registered on the Sevenoaks District Housing Register will need to register their interest in available properties by submitting a 'bid' by phone, text, special coupon or online through the Kent Homechoice website when it is available later this year. You will not be able to bid for properties until Autumn 2008.
There is no cost involved in the bidding process. All available properties will be advertised in the Kent Homechoice fortnightly freesheet available from various drop off points throughout the district and on the Kent Homechoice website when it is available later this year.
People registered and looking for affordable homes can then bid for properties through the Kent Homechoice website, by phone, by text message, or by filling in special coupons.
To bid, you must become a member of the Kent Homechoice scheme by applying and being accepted on to the Sevenoaks District Housing Register.
For further information on how the scheme works please see our Kent Homechoice frequently asked question page, or call the Housing Options Team at West Kent Housing Association on 01732 749433.
