Low Cost Housing Options

House prices are very high in the Sevenoaks District and people will often buy a share in a property rather than buy a home outright. Through Homebuy you can buy a property on a part buy, part rent basis and there are special initiatives for first time buyers. Homebuy also offers properties to rent on a discounted rent, where the rent is discounted up to 80% below a normal market rent.

Homebuy Products are offered as a Government incentive administered in Kent by the housing association Moat Homes Ltd.

Some schemes are set aside for key workers. Key workers now have the choice to buy a share in a property or rent a home. Find out more about Home Ownership Schemes.

A pilot scheme is running until March 2013 designed to help members of the Armed Forces, with four to six years service find a suitable home on the open market using an equity loan scheme. Under an equity loan scheme you must be able to afford a set percentage of the property sale price and the remainder is funded by the Government. The Government loan is also secured on the property, like a second mortgage. Find out more about the Armed Forces Home Ownership Scheme.

There are also subsidised schemes available for people aged 55+ to either purchase a share or a lease in a retirement housing apartment. Retirement housing is also known as sheltered housing. The Shared Homeownership Team at Moat can give you details on what particular properties are available for those aged 55+ in the Sevenoaks District on 0845 359 6323.

Rockdale Housing Association offer the sale of leasehold retirement apartments through a leasehold scheme for elderly people. For more information contact Rockdale on 01732 458762, e-mail enquiries@rockdale.org.uk or visit the Rockdale website.
