Homelessness Strategy Consultation

Over the last six months, Sevenoaks District Council has been working with Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council and Tunbridge Wells Borough Council to produce a new Joint Homelessness Strategy ( PDF File 1284KB file details) and Action Plan ( PDF File 268KB file details) for West Kent to cover the period 2011 -2016. The strategy, which has been written in partnership with West Kent Consulting, sets out the three local authorities' vision for tackling homelessness over the next five years.

The West Kent local authorities have a history of working together successfully - the current strategy 'Joint Homelessness Strategy - Towards 2010' was written jointly and has been in place since 2007 (see below for more details).

Key Priorities

The latest strategy has identified five main strategic priorities, which are:

  1. To maximise homelessness prevention through an enhanced housing options service
  2. Maximising resources across West Kent (becoming more efficient and effective)
  3. Working effectively with private sector landlords
  4. Creating strong partnerships to tackle homelessness
  5. Meeting the diverse needs of homeless people

Views of the many stakeholders, partners, staff and service users have already been sought and these have helped shape the strategy and its action plan.

The Consultation period for the new Joint Strategy ends on 30th April 2011. If you have any comments or suggestions you would like to make, please email info@wkconsulting.co.uk
