Affordable Housing

We work very closely with local housing associations to provide affordable homes for rent.  Local housing associations own over 6,000 affordable homes for rent within the District.  If you would like more information about affordable homes for rent you can view Finding a Place to Live.

Housing associations and local authorities in Kent are working together to offer a range of affordable home ownership opportunities to people who cannot afford to buy or rent on the open market. This is known as Homebuy and the appointed agent for Kent is Moat Housing Association.

The Homebuy Website has been designed to help you to get the information that you need to get yourself onto the property ladder quickly and easily. The website lists all homes that are currently available, including shared ownership schemes (part rent/part buy) and intermediate rented schemes (rents at 80% of open market value) and gives details of how to apply.

Many of the District's affordable homes are provided on new build developments through the planning process. Depending on where the new build development is located, the District Council will seek to negotiate 35% to 40% affordable housing on site.  If you would like more information regarding the current policies applying to affordable housing on  new build developments, you can view the Local Development Framework ( PDF File 793KB file details) pages and the National and Regional planning Section B pages 58-59 and Section C pages 233-234.

The EAC Housing Care website gives information on retirement housing for people of the age 55+ and care homes in the Sevenoaks District both for rent and purchase.

In rural areas, the District Council works closely with the Rural Housing Enabler and the Parish Councils to provide new affordable housing for people with a local connection where a specific need has been identified.  Development in the rural areas is very closely controlled.  If you would like more information regarding the planning policies applying to rural "exception" sites, see page 30 of the Saved Local Plan Policies. You can view more information regarding the Rural Housing Enabler.
