The Sevenoaks District Sustainable Community Action Plan
"Making it happen - together", The Sevenoaks District Sustainable Community Action Plan was published in April 2004. It sets out a ten year vision that reflects what people in the District said was important to them and is supported by a three-year action plan for 2010-13. With 70 targets, the action plan identifies timescales and lead agencies responsible for delivering and monitoring each action.
The themes in the Community Plan were identified following extensive consultation with the community and partner agencies as follows:
We want Sevenoaks District to be recognised by all as a place with:
Sustainability checklist
The Council is committed to integrating the principles of sustainable development into its policies and decision-making processes, enabling services to be delivered in the most sustainable way possible.
The 'Sustainability Checklist' has been developed as an easy to use tool for Council staff to assess the sustainability of policies, strategies, plans and projects. It's designed to raise awareness of sustainable development issues and to assist officers and Members in their decision making process from the outset.
Sustainable Development initiatives
Sevenoaks District Council is committed to supporting and encouraging sustainable development initiatives throughout the District. In partnership with local people, organisations, businesses and other agencies, the Council aims to make a significant contribution to a sustainable, healthy and balanced community through supporting key initiatives.
Some of these actions are progressed through supporting new initiatives and existing projects which focus on making a difference and raising awareness to create a more sustainable community. Key themes include sustainable transport, environmental awareness, community health and wellbeing, sustainable lifestyles and awareness amongst young people.
