Local Development Framework (LDF)

Sevenoaks District Council is preparing the Local Development Framework (LDF) for the District.

The LDF comprises a portfolio of different Local Development Documents (LDDs). These LDDs will consist of documents with development plan status - to be known as Development Plan Documents (DPDs) and additional Supplementary Planning Documents (SPDs) that form additional guidance.

The intention of the LDF is to provide clearer, flexible and more wide-ranging visions and strategies for spatial development that will be easier to keep up-to-date. Within the new system there is a greater focus on delivery than the adopted Local Plan. The LDF will be a continuous process that will allow for the preparation and revision of documents, as and when they are needed.

In addition to introducing LDFs the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 (PCPA) set a requirement that Local Planning Authorities must undertake a Sustainability Appraisal (SA) of each of the LDDs. SA aims to ensure that the policies and proposals in an LDD reflect the principles of sustainable development.

The documents that form the Local Development Framework can be viewed in greater detail following the relevant link below.
