Sevenoaks District Council runs the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering. This is aimed at candidates working in a catering environment, and has replaced the CIEH Foundation Certificate in Food Hygiene.
This new qualification has been developed to address the new national occupational standards in food safety and the recent changes in food safety legislation.
There is more emphasis on the four Cs which are:
Monitoring controls, corrective actions and methods of reporting are examined as part of a food safety management system. The Chartred Institute of Environmental Health syllabus (
PDF 50K file details) has also been updated to reflect the latest changes to legislation and now includes the problems that arise from allergen contamination.
The CIEH level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering has been accredited by QCA. The assessment of the new qualification is by exam (30 multiple-choice questions). The papers are scan-marked by CIEH and candidates will need to achieve 20 correct answers to be awarded a pass certificate.
The course which costs £60 per person, is held in the Council's offices in Argyle Road, Sevenoaks.
It begins with registration (from 9.15am to 9.30am) and finishes at 5pm. Refreshment breaks and a buffet lunch will be provided.
