Air Quality Monitoring

Historically, our energy needs for industry, electricity generation, transport, commercial buildings and keeping the home fires burning were met by burning fossil fuels such as coal, oil and gas.

During recent years, tougher environmental restrictions and improved energy efficiency have led to industrial and domestic pollutant sources and their impact on air quality, in all except worst case situations, improving or being maintained in a steady state.

Now the major threat to clean air is from traffic emissions. Petrol and diesel-engine vehicles emit a wide variety of pollutants which have an increasing impact on air quality.

Sevenoaks District Council monitors local air quality on a regular basis and works with Kings College, London to assess local air quality and predict future pollution levels.
