NHS Stop Smoking Service
Many smokers want to go smokefree but aren’t sure how to do it. People who use their local NHS Stop Smoking Service and medication are 4 times more likely to be successful using the service and stop smoking products than going it alone.
There are lots of products out there to help with nicotine addiction such as patches, gum, inhalators, microtabs and other stop smoking medicines. We can advise you on which product or combination of products would work for you, plus the NHS offers plenty of support.
You can choose to work with a trained advisor, either in a group or one-to-one. One of the things we can do is use a carbon monoxide monitor to check how addicted you are and measure the fall in carbon monoxide in your body each week after you have quit. Most groups meet for an hour each week for 7 weeks. The first two sessions help you to plan and prepare to stop and then you go smokefree in the third week. The group meet each week to support and share their experience.
If you prefer to talk one-to-one we offer drop in clinics and telephone support. You can also access support through your GP or some pharmacies. To find your local pharmacy please contact us. For further information or to speak to an advisor, please telephone 01622 723836 or email smoking.westkent@nhs.uk
