New civil parish of Hextable to be created

During May 2006, the Hextable Residents' Association requested that Sevenoaks District Council investigate the possibility of forming a new parish council for Hextable village, which is currently part of the Swanley Town Council area.

Hextable Residents' Association suggested that any new parish council area should mirror the existing Swanley Town Council ward of Hextable.

The District Council conducted a review and decided, at a meeting held on Tuesday 11th April 2006, to recommend to central government, by 33 votes to 9, the following:

(a)  Sevenoaks District Council recommends to the Secretary of State the creation of a separate civil parish for Hextable with effect from 1st April 2007 but the Secretary of State be asked to give special attention to the potential financial implications of separation;

(b)  the area of the new civil parish of Hextable be the same as the existing parish ward of Hextable;

(c)  Sevenoaks District Council recommends to the Electoral Commission the establishment of a civil parish council for the newly created parish of Hextable and that nine members represent the whole of that parish;

(d)  Sevenoaks District Council consults with Swanley Town Council on revised electoral arrangements for the Parish of Swanley; and

(e)  Sevenoaks District Council publishes draft recommendations in relation to (a)-(d) above in accordance with the Local Government & Rating Act 1997 and makes them available for inspection at their offices for the period of one month.

The District Council published draft recommendations on 20th April 2006 relating to the above. The document was available for inspection for one month at the Council's offices at Argyle Road, Sevenoaks and Swanley Information Centre and on this website. Nothing further for consideration was received during this period. Therefore a submission was made to the Secretary of State in May 2006. Click on the following link to view the document. Submission to the ODPM ( PDF 122K file details). The Secretary of State approved the recommendation of the District Council on 7th December 2007 and it is intended that a new civil parish of Hextable be created, with effect from 1st April 2008. It is also likely that elections for the new parish will be held on 1st May 2008. Elections will also take place for the four wards of the revised Swanley Parish on the same day.
