How we measure and manage performance
Our performance is measured and monitored in a number of different ways:
- Through our Performance Management System, which ensures that all key services are measured and monitored on a regular basis in line with aims and objectives (Community wide, organisational wide, service based and for individuals) as outlined on our Hierarchy of Plans (

- Our effectiveness is also tested by Central Government through the Comprehensive Performance Assessment.
- We also have carried out a number of Best Value reviews of key services since 2000. These reviews set out what the Council needs to improve and how it should implement the changes. These have now been replaced with a new programme of Internal Service Inspections (ISIs), which began in 2006/7.
- The Audit Commission also carries out an annual audit and inspection of the Council. Click on the following link to view details of the most recent Audit Commission inspection letter 2006/7 (
