The death of a partner or someone who shares your home can affect your entitlement to Council Tax discounts or a property exemption, as well as your entitlement to benefit. It is best to inform Sevenoaks District Council at the earliest opportunity. Contact the Council Tax section and Contact the Benefits section.

Registering a death

The General Register Office website explains how to register a death in England and Wales.

Death certificates locally are dealt with by Kent County Council (KCC).

For more information, including searching for or ordering certificates, click on the following link to visit KCC's web pages on registering a death or find out about its KCC's local registration offices.

See also the Direct.gov website pages for advice on registering a death.

Coroners' office

The Coroner has a duty to investigate the circumstances of sudden, unnatural or uncertified deaths that are reported to him. He has to find out the medical cause of the death, if it is not known, and to enquire about the cause of it if it was due to violence or was otherwise unnatural.

There are four Coroners' offices in Kent. See the Coroners' office page on the Kent County Council website for more information.
