Race equality
Our vision for racial equality in Sevenoaks District is:
- Everyone should be able to live in safe and caring communities, free from discrimination and harassment, regardless of their racial, cultural or ethnic background;
- Long-lasting changes that meet the needs, and improve the quality of lives, of people from minority ethnic groups are identified;
- The District Council provides effective partnerships with all sectors of the community;
- Barriers to social inclusion are removed;
- Cultural diversity is celebrated;
- People from all ethnic backgrounds experience equal and appropriate opportunities in employment and recruitment; and
- All services provided by and on behalf of the Council are accessible according to the needs of people from all ethnic backgrounds
Priorities for the next three years
We have produced an action plan which shows how each of the District Council's Services intend to eliminate discrimination and promote racial equality over the next three years.
We will also be working, with partners where appropriate, to achieve the following priorities:
- Gather more evidence to gain a better understanding of the needs of our diverse communities;
- Actively promote involvement of local communities in the further development of this Scheme;
- Increase awareness and use of District Council services within minority ethnic communities; and
- Ensure all information is provided in alternative formats and languages as required.
