UK funding opportunities for community groups

Awards for All: From April 2006

The lottery scheme, which offers grants of £300 to £10,000 for local community projects, has made changes to its rules from 1 April 2006. Firstly, the new upper limit for grants will be £10,000. The other major change is that it has identified five new priority outcomes (from a national list of nine) for targeting support in the south-east. The applicable priority outcomes are:

Outcome 1: increased understanding of different people, places, cultures in the local community (e.g. reminiscence and oral history projects, community festivals, community history exhibitions).

Outcome 4: increased use of outdoor community spaces (e.g. children’s play areas, allotments, public art projects, multi-use sports areas, wildlife areas).

Outcome 5: wider use of community buildings (e.g. the refurbishment of a kitchen for a lunch club, increasing uptake via publicity, a community café, a village film club).

Outcome 7: improved volunteering opportunities and support (e.g. training courses, volunteer recruitment campaigns, widening diversity, accreditation).

Outcome 8: increased community participation in creating healthier lifestyles (e.g. promotion of healthier eating, self-help groups, walking and cycling projects, anti-natal classes, well-being classes).

The scheme anticipates that about 50% of the programme spend will be available for projects that address priority outcomes and the remainder will be spent on projects that meet the programme’s aims in other ways.
