Street trading and illegal street trading
Street Trading is defined as 'the selling or offering for sale of any article especially from a trailer or stall in the street'. This includes food such as burgers, kebabs, doughnuts etc. or other items such as household goods.
Currently, Sevenoaks District Council does not have any designated areas or streets that require specific Street Trading Consent. However, you must have the land owners’ permission to use a site.
If you intend to trade from a roadside verge, lay by, road or any similar situation, you need to contact Kent Highways on 08458 247800 to confirm ownership and obtain permission.
If you intend to trade on privately owned land, the landowner should be aware that if they allow you to trade, they may need planning permission and should contact the Council's
Planning Office.
If you intend to trade on Public land (owned by either Sevenoaks District Council, Sevenoaks Town Council or the local Parish Council) you will need to contact the appropriate authority. Food Traders must be registered with Sevenoaks District Council’s Environmental Health Department.
