Dangerous, exotic and wild animal licencing

The keeping of certain species of wild animals is controlled by the Dangerous Wild Animals Act 1976. No one may keep any dangerous wild animal listed in The Dangerous Wild Animals Act  without first obtaining a licence from their local authority. A licence will not be issued if the applicant is disqualified from consideration or has a conviction under the Dangerous Wild Animals Act.

Where a licence is granted, that licence (and any subsequent licence) will expire on 31 March every year. It must be renewed before that date if the licence holder intends to continue keeping the animal(s) named on the licence.
